  Conservative dentistry is the branch of dentistry which deals with the treatment of caries, malformed, discolored, nonesthetic or fractured teeth and endodontics deals with the treatment of pulpal and periapical diseases and dental pain management. It also involves performing root canal treatment and associated surgical procedures to rid the tooth of its offending malady.

            The UG training in the subject starts right from 2 nd year with the dental materials lectures and labs. The phantom lab with simulators introduces the student to various treatment modalities before they start working on patients from 3rd year onwards. The department lays strong emphasis on discipline and attendance right from the pre clinics to strive towards all round development of the student. The students are taught the handling of various restorative materials as well as the basic technique of root canal treatment.

The department offers postgraduate program in the Conservative Dentistry & Endodontics specialty with the intake of two postgraduate students per year. The PG curriculum involves developing both clinical & academics skills including UG teaching. Ample opportunity will be provided to PG students to interact and improve their knowledge at symposiums, seminars and conferences. The course involves case discussions, weekly journal club meetings, seminars, literature review, lectures and research study leading to submission of dissertation to the university. PG students are exposed to complicated endodontic cases and develop skills in esthetic dentistry and smile designing with procedures like bleaching, composite and ceramic veneers, diastema closure and also rehabilitation of mutilated teeth with custom cast & prefabricated metal & fibre post systems.

The undergraduate and postgraduate students are extensively trained according to the syllabus prescribed by the DCI & MUHS in both clinics and academics.
